Donations of Puppet Collections

Puppeteers of America understands that puppetry is an artform based in the tangible object; we know first-hand how much love goes into the creation and preservation of a puppet. We wish to honor that love, craft, and care and we cherish the role that we can play in helping preserve these tangible objects of love for you or your loved one.

While we wish that we could be the new home for all donations of puppets or books, our limited storage space won’t allow for that. At this time we cannot receive donations that we did not plan for, and we kindly request that you contact the office before mailing anything. Please only mail packages if you have contacted the office, first.

In order to ensure puppet collections are efficiently and properly managed, we have developed the following procedure:

First, we recommend that you get in contact with your local puppetry guild to see if there are local puppeteers near you who would be interested and able to receive your donation. This will save you time, shipping, and it will help support our local guilds, which are the roots of this organization. You can find the contact information for the puppetry guild nearest to you here: https://www.lacquiparledesign.com/pofa/who-we-are/regions-and-guilds/

If you have materials in your collection that relate to our organization’s history, we may be interested in adding them to our archives collection housed (in our very tiny office) in Minneapolis, MN. Examples of materials include, but are not limited to: Puppeteers of America festival brochures and materials, past issues of the Puppetry Journal or the Puppetry Yearbook, pins, posters, or other small items. Please contact our office by sending an email with photos of the items to office@puppeteers.org. If email is not an option, you may call 612-821-2382 during office hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 am -12 noon CST.

If your needs for your puppetry collection falls outside of these guidelines, please do not hesitate to contact the Puppeteers of America office. You may send an email to office@puppeteers.org (including pictures is greatly appreciated and helps us find your collection a proper home more quickly), or you may call 612-821-2382 during office hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 am – 12 noon CST.
